The continuing, and worsening, situation in East Timor has sickened
the Australian people, with almost universal condemnation of the
tardiness of the international community in turning fine words into
action. The obscenity of the Indonesian military's endorsement of
genocide by the local militias is beyond comprehension in this day
and age.

The first three tracks this week carry powerful messages in support
of the East Timorese struggle. Just in case people didn't hear them
at the top of the program, I played them again at the end.

The featured album was AN DIOLAIM by CLANNAD (Music Club). This is
a mid-price re-release of some tracks from the band's two recordings

The program featured mostly Canadian artists, with Canada's National
Day earlier in the week. Maybe next year I'll give equal time to US
Independence Day.

There were also a number of tracks featuring Dick Gaughan. This
Scottish musical hero will be performing for our Folk Club later
this month but I will be elsewhere, so I happily drove to Sydney
last week to see him in action. Wonderful concert!
