Today's program included a healthy dose of Australian
music, to acknowledge the approach of Australia Day, as
well as a nod to Robert Burns, celebrating his 245th
birthday. The featured album was THE KITCHEN
RECORDINGS by SEAN O'DRISCOLL & LARRY
EGAN (Clo Iar-Chonnachta www.cic.ie
) Splendid, straight-ahead instrumentals, all in
the Irish traditional style, played with impressive flair
and precision. A fine example of the "banjo
and box" approach to Irish music. The

The featured album was SONGS THEY USED TO SING
by ALAN MUSGROVE with Bob McInnes &
Friends. (Private release thalia-@hotkey.net.au
) All of these twenty songs come from the Australian
tradition, some are older than others, and most are local
variants or parodies of earlier material from the British
Isles. The researched sleeve notes are
comprehensive and the arrangements are sympathetic to the
songs, although accompaniment occasionally dominates
vocals. This album is an interesting and
entertaining album of Australian folk songs. The
